A Task Long Overdue
VietFugue™ Independent Publishing, website vietfugue.net, is the shared trademark of two separate, new independent publishing companies, one formed and operated under the laws of the United Kingdom, the other under the laws of the United States.
VietFugue publishes titles from established Vietnamese American writers whose background dates back to the Vietnam-war refugee heritage (the "Voices Forgotten" series), as well as renewed editions of deceased South Vietnamese writers and scholars (the Rare Books series).
VietFugue is not a self-publishing service company. It selects titles by invitation, based on recommendations and confidential reviews from scholars and published writers who are interested in the subject matters, and who serve as VietFugue’s independent editorial board.
As a start-up small-press and independent publisher, VietFugue may use and pay for the print-on-demand and distribution services of established online companies utilized by self-published authors in today’s marketplace, but VietFugue authors do not pay for the production and distribution of their books.
VietFugue believes it may be the first Vietnamese-owned press that specializes in Vietnamese refugee writers and their heritage, in a literary market long dominated by the prestigious traditional presses and other publishers. We view our mission as the task long overdue.
In the U.S, our joint venturer, the ̣Institute for Civic Education in Vietnam (ICEVN), is a non-profit organization based in Houston, Texas, USA, and a publisher of educational work authored or translated by scholars of Vietnamese descent, as well as other authors whose passion is in personal development or the humanities. The Institute also promotes the Vietnamese culture and history, and engages in youth leadership development, as well as community services for Vietnamese Americans.
